What We Notarize

Common General Notary Documents

General mobile notary appointments cover the everyday documents that don't fall into hospital, jail, estate, or real estate categories. Tap any document below to see details, the notarial act required, and what to expect.

Power of Attorney (POA)
Grants someone legal authority to act on your behalf for financial, medical, or general matters.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Acknowledgment — and sometimes witnesses depending on the type of POA.
When you need it:When a family member can no longer manage their own affairs, or when you need someone to handle legal/financial matters on your behalf.
What we do:Verify signer identity, notarize the POA, and ensure proper execution per California requirements.
Good to know:Banks and financial institutions may have their own POA forms in addition to your general POA. We can create a POA on-site using our Rocket Lawyer account if you don't have one yet.
Minor Travel Consent Letter
Required when a child travels without both parents or legal guardians.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat (sworn statement under oath) or acknowledgment, depending on the template.
When you need it:Domestic or international travel with a minor — airlines, border agents, and immigration officials may request this letter.
What we do:Verify the parent's identity, notarize the consent letter, and provide a scanned copy for digital records.
Good to know:Include the child's name, date of birth, travel dates, destination, and the accompanying adult's information. We can create this letter on-site.
Passport Consent for Minors (DS-3053)
One parent authorizing the issuance of a U.S. passport for a child under 16.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat — the signer must sign in front of the notary and swear the information is true.
When you need it:When both parents cannot appear together at the passport office and one parent needs to provide written consent.
What we do:Administer the oath, witness the signature, and notarize the DS-3053 form.
Good to know:Download the DS-3053 from the U.S. State Department website. Do NOT sign it before we arrive — the signature must be made in front of the notary.
Name Change / Same-Name Affidavit
Proves your identity when official documents show different name variations.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat — you are swearing under oath that the statement is true.
When you need it:Maiden name vs. married name, legal name vs. commonly used name, or corrections after a court-ordered name change.
What we do:Administer the oath, witness your signature, and notarize the affidavit.
Good to know:Bring supporting documents such as your marriage certificate, court order, or previous ID showing the other name variation. We can create this affidavit on-site.
Affidavit of Support (Immigration)
Proves a U.S. sponsor can financially support someone entering the country.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat — the sponsor swears under oath that the information provided is true.
When you need it:Immigration proceedings where a U.S. citizen or resident is sponsoring someone's visa or green card application.
What we do:Administer the oath, witness the signature, and notarize the affidavit for submission with the immigration filing.
Good to know:The I-864 form does not require notarization, but many supplemental affidavits and declarations in immigration cases do. Confirm with your attorney which documents need notarization.
General Affidavit / Sworn Statement
A written statement made under oath for legal, personal, or business purposes.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat — the signer swears or affirms under oath that the contents are true.
When you need it:Court filings, insurance claims, disputes, and anywhere a sworn written statement is required.
What we do:Administer the oath, witness the signature, and notarize the affidavit.
Good to know:If you don't have a drafted affidavit, we can help you create one on-site using our Rocket Lawyer account — then print, sign, and notarize in one visit.
Guardianship / Temporary Custody Authorization
Authorizes a non-parent to make decisions for a minor on a temporary basis.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Acknowledgment — the parent acknowledges they are granting temporary authority.
When you need it:Medical consent, school enrollment, or travel when parents are unavailable and a caregiver needs legal authority.
What we do:Verify the parent's identity, notarize the authorization letter, and provide a scanned copy.
Good to know:Include specific permissions (medical, educational, travel) and an expiration date. We can create this letter on-site.
Bill of Sale
Documents the transfer of ownership for vehicles, equipment, or personal property.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Acknowledgment — both buyer and seller acknowledge the transaction.
When you need it:Private vehicle sales, equipment transfers, or any sale where proof of ownership transfer is needed. Often requested by the DMV.
What we do:Verify identity for both parties, notarize the bill of sale, and provide copies.
Good to know:Include the item description, VIN (for vehicles), sale price, and both parties' full legal names. We can create a bill of sale on-site.
Letter of Resignation
Notarized proof of intent and date for corporate officers or board members stepping down.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Acknowledgment — the signer acknowledges the resignation is voluntary.
When you need it:Corporate officers, board members, or organization leaders stepping down and needing verifiable proof of intent and date.
What we do:Verify identity, notarize the letter, and provide a scanned copy for records.
Good to know:Include the effective date of resignation, your title/position, and the organization name. We can create this letter on-site.
Copy Certification by Document Custodian
You swear under oath that a copy of an original document you hold is true and correct.
Tap for details ›
Notarial act:Jurat — you swear under oath the copy is a true and complete reproduction of the original.
When you need it:Corporate records, diplomas, contracts, and other documents that need a certified copy but are not vital records.
What we do:Verify identity, administer the oath, make the copy if needed using our portable scanner/printer, and notarize the certification.
Good to know:California notaries cannot certify copies of vital records (birth, death, marriage certificates). Those must be obtained from the issuing agency.

Common Questions

General Mobile Notary FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most about mobile notary appointments in Los Angeles.

How much does a mobile notary cost in Los Angeles?

General mobile notary appointments typically start at $75–$125 depending on the number of signatures, time of day, and travel distance. Same-day, after-hours, and weekend appointments may include an additional fee. Contact us at (213) 933‑2507 for an exact quote.

Can a mobile notary come to my house?

Yes. We travel to homes, apartments, offices, coffee shops, hospitals, care facilities, and other locations across Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties. You choose the location that works best for you.

Can you create my document on-site?

Yes. We bring a laptop, portable printer, and scanner to every appointment. You can use our Rocket Lawyer account or any legal document source of your choosing to create, review, and print your document on the spot — then sign and notarize it in the same visit. Laptop and printer rental is available as an add-on service.

Do I need an appointment or can I get same-day service?

Same-day and next-day appointments are frequently available. Book online through our scheduling page or call and text (213) 933‑2507 to check availability.

What ID do I need for notarization in California?

California law requires a valid, current government-issued photo ID. Accepted forms include a California driver license, state ID card, U.S. passport, or foreign passport. Expired IDs are not accepted.

What is the difference between an acknowledgment and a jurat?

An acknowledgment confirms the signer is willingly signing the document and acknowledges the signature is theirs. A jurat requires the signer to sign in front of the notary and swear or affirm under oath that the contents of the document are true. The document itself or the requesting party usually specifies which notarial act is needed.

What documents can a notary NOT notarize?

In California, notaries cannot notarize vital records such as birth, death, or marriage certificates issued by a government agency. Notaries also cannot notarize documents where the signer is not present, cannot be properly identified, or appears to be under duress or mentally incapacitated.

Can a notary help me fill out my document?

A notary cannot provide legal advice or tell you what to write. However, we bring a laptop with document creation tools so you can draft or customize your own document from templates on platforms like Rocket Lawyer — then print, sign, and notarize in the same visit.
