CJX is not one building but a set of interconnected facilities sharing corridors and tunnels: the Intake Release Center (IRC) — where every person arrested in Orange County is booked, medically screened, and initially classified — the Central Men's Jail (CMJ), a maximum-security housing facility that opened in 1968, and the Transportation Bureau. If your loved one was just arrested in Orange County, they are almost certainly at IRC on their way to a housing assignment at CMJ, Theo Lacy, or James A. Musick (“The Farm”). Inmate identification — no personal photo ID required
Under California Civil Code § 1185(b)(3)(D), sheriff-issued inmate identification is acceptable ID for a signer in a local detention facility. At Orange County Central Jail that is the OCSD booking wristband the inmate wears — matched to the sheriff’s booking record — so you do not need to bring the inmate’s wallet, driver’s license, or passport. Just give us the inmate’s full legal name and booking number when you call. If the wristband is missing or unreadable, California law also allows identification by credible identifying witnesses under Civil Code § 1185(b)(1)–(2).

Is the IRC the same as the Central Men's Jail in Orange County?
They are part of the same complex but serve different functions. The Intake Release Center (IRC) is where every person arrested in Orange County is booked, medically screened, and classified. The Central Men's Jail (CMJ) is one of the housing facilities where inmates are held after classification. Both are inside the Central Jail Complex (CJX) at 550 North Flower Street in Santa Ana, connected by internal corridors. If someone was arrested within the last few days and has not been transferred, they are likely at IRC. If they have been in custody longer, check whether they are at CMJ, Theo Lacy, or Musick.

Are women housed at the OC Central Jail?
No, not anymore. The Central Women's Jail (CWJ) at 550 North Flower Street closed in December 2020, and all female inmates in Orange County are now housed at the Theo Lacy Facility in the City of Orange. The only exception is a small mental-health unit for women (Module K) that remains inside IRC. If a woman was recently arrested in OC, she is booked at IRC and then transferred to Theo Lacy for housing.

Usually not efficiently — the Central Jail Complex is in Santa Ana and Theo Lacy is in the City of Orange, about 15 minutes apart, but each requires separate check-in, security screening, and professional visit procedures.
