James A. Musick Facility — known throughout Orange County as ‘The Farm’ or the Honor Farm — is the minimum-security jail campus operated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at 13502 Musick Road in Irvine. The nickname dates to 1963, when the site opened as the ‘County Industrial Farm’ and inmates worked agricultural jobs on the land. The farming operations ended long ago, but bail bondsmen, defense attorneys, and OC families still refer to it as the Honor Farm. It holds low-risk male inmates: non-violent misdemeanor convictions, work-release participants, and inmates finishing longer sentences. Since December 2020, all OC female inmates are housed at Theo Lacy rather than Musick.

How it works

Located at 13502 Musick Road in Irvine, the Musick Facility has free parking available in the facility lot. We check in at the main entrance and coordinate with facility staff for professional visiting access. Travel from Granada Hills is typically 55–75 minutes via I-5 South.
We check in with facility staff, clear security, and meet the inmate in the professional visiting area. We verify identity, review the documents, and complete the notarization. Most visits take 30–60 minutes depending on security procedures and document volume.

Under California Civil Code § 1185(b)(3)(D), sheriff-issued inmate identification is acceptable ID for a signer in a local detention facility. At Musick Facility that is the OCSD booking wristband the inmate wears — matched to the sheriff’s booking record — so you do not need to bring the inmate’s wallet, driver’s license, or passport. Just give us the inmate’s full legal name and booking number when you call.
Bring all pages of the document — not just the signature page. Documents should be fully prepared and ready to sign. Missing pages or incomplete forms will require a return visit. A notary cannot draft, complete, or advise on the content of a document, so anything unfinished needs to be completed by whoever prepared it, or by an attorney, before we schedule.
