Bedside signing & seal

What to have ready for a bedside notary visit.
Valid photo ID
Every signer needs a current government-issued photo ID — California driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or equivalent. If the patient's ID is at home, have a family member bring it before the appointment.

Bring complete documents — not just the signature page. If you need documents generated on-site, we bring a laptop, portable printer, and internet connection to produce forms during our visit.
Any required witnesses

Can you notarize for a patient who only speaks Spanish or another language?
Olive View serves a very diverse community with many Spanish-speaking and multilingual patients. Under California law, the notary must communicate directly with the signer in a shared language — a family member or interpreter cannot translate the notary’s questions to the signer. We work in English. If the signer does not speak English well enough for us to confirm identity, willingness, and awareness directly, we recommend booking a Spanish-language notary instead of using an interpreter.
What if the patient was brought in by ambulance and the family does not have their ID?
Emergency admissions often mean the patient's ID is at home. We recommend having a family member retrieve the ID and bring it to the hospital before the appointment. If that is not possible, we will discuss credible witness options under California law.
