About this county

What "Los Angeles County" means for your document

Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the United States, with 88 incorporated cities and many unincorporated communities spread across roughly 4,000 square miles. For a notarization or apostille, the county itself usually doesn't change what's required — California law applies throughout the state — but it does affect where we travel, which facility a signing happens in, and which county office issues certain underlying records.

California rules, county logistics

A California-commissioned notary follows the same statute and journal rules anywhere in the state. What changes county-to-county is travel time, parking, hospital access policies, and jail visiting schedules — not the notarial act itself.

County-issued records often need apostille

LA County birth, death, and marriage certificates issued by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk are common apostille targets. We can explain the certified-copy path and the California Secretary of State step before you order anything.

Hospital & jail signings are coordinated

Hospitals and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department facilities have their own visiting and documentation rules. We coordinate by phone first so the appointment time, ID requirements, and facility access expectations are clear before we travel.

One commission, three counties

We are a single California-commissioned notary serving Los Angeles County, Ventura County, and select nearby areas. For appointments outside Los Angeles County, see our broader service-area directory.

Where we sign

Los Angeles County facilities and settings we visit

Most appointments fall into one of five categories. Each has its own scheduling pattern, ID rules, and timing considerations. If your situation is unusual, call and we'll walk through it.

Homes & private offices

Single-family homes, condos, high-rises, and small offices throughout Los Angeles County. Typical appointments include real-estate signings, estate-planning documents, powers of attorney, and travel consents.

Examples: Beverly Hills high-rises, Westwood condos, SFV homes, Pasadena law offices.

Hospitals & medical facilities

Bedside notarizations at LA County hospitals, including patient signings for advance healthcare directives, healthcare powers of attorney, financial powers of attorney, and estate documents. We coordinate access with the nurse or social worker before arriving.

Examples: Cedars-Sinai, Ronald Reagan UCLA, Keck/USC, Providence Holy Cross, LAC+USC, Harbor-UCLA, Olive View-UCLA, MLK Community, Huntington Health, Kaiser Sunset / Woodland Hills, Northridge Hospital, Valley Presbyterian, Henry Mayo.

Los Angeles County jails & detention

Inmate signings at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department facilities, including Men's Central Jail (MCJ) and Twin Towers Correctional Facility (TTCF) downtown, Century Regional Detention Facility (Lynwood), and the Pitchess Detention Center (Castaic) complex (North County, North Facility, South Facility, East Facility). Inmate notarizations require advance coordination and signer awareness.

Courthouses & county offices

Appointments near major LA County courthouses including the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Pasadena, Burbank, Van Nuys, Chatsworth, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Compton, Long Beach, and Norwalk courthouses, plus the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk office in Norwalk for county-issued vital records.

Skilled nursing & care facilities

Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living, hospice, and rehabilitation centers throughout Los Angeles County. Advance directives signed in a skilled nursing facility have a specific California rule (Probate Code §4675) that requires a patient advocate or ombudsman as one of the witnesses — we coordinate around that requirement.

Hotels, studios & airports

Visiting executives, production crews, and travelers often need notarizations on a tight schedule. We travel to hotels in DTLA, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, the LAX area, and studio lots in Burbank, Hollywood, and Culver City.

County records & apostille

Los Angeles County vital records and apostille

Many apostille requests start with a Los Angeles County document — a birth certificate, a death certificate, or a marriage record. Here's how the pieces fit together so you don't order the wrong copy.

Birth, death, marriage

LA County issues certified copies through the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk in Norwalk, with select branch offices. For apostille purposes, you generally need a certified copy with a wet-ink signature from the county clerk, not a copy you notarize yourself.

Divorce decrees

Divorce judgments come from the LA County Superior Court, not the Registrar-Recorder. You'll typically need a certified court copy with a wet-ink clerk's signature before the California Secretary of State can apostille it.

State-level vital records

For births, deaths, or marriages outside LA County, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issues state-level certified copies. Those work for apostille too, but typically have longer processing times than county-issued copies.

What we handle

Once you have the correct certified copy, we coordinate the California Secretary of State apostille step. For documents that aren't government-issued (powers of attorney, affidavits, corporate records, school records), we handle the notarization first and then the apostille.

Common questions

Los Angeles County notary & apostille FAQ

Quick answers to what most callers ask. If your situation doesn't fit, a quick call or text is the fastest way to get a clear answer.

Do you serve all of Los Angeles County?

We cover a wide portion of Los Angeles County, including the San Fernando Valley, Westside, Central LA, Downtown, the San Gabriel Valley edge, and the Santa Clarita Valley. The most reliable way to confirm whether we travel to your exact city or neighborhood is to call or text with the appointment address and timing.

Can you visit Los Angeles County hospitals and jails?

Yes. We coordinate mobile notarizations for patients at hospitals across Los Angeles County and for inmates at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department facilities, subject to signer awareness, facility approval, ID rules, and visiting schedules. Hospital and jail visits are scheduled by phone so we can confirm access and timing first.

Do you handle Los Angeles County apostille documents?

Yes. For documents originally signed or notarized in California, we handle California Secretary of State apostille processing. Los Angeles County vital records (birth, death, marriage) typically need to be ordered as certified copies from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk or the California Department of Public Health before they can be apostilled. We can explain which path applies to your document.

Where do you travel from?

We are based in Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley and travel throughout Los Angeles County. Travel time, traffic, and the type of facility involved affect scheduling and fees, which is why we quote the full cost (including any parking or expected wait time) before confirming an appointment.

Do you offer same-day notary or apostille help in Los Angeles County?

Same-day mobile notarizations are often possible depending on the time of day, traffic, and the signer's readiness. Same-day apostille is also possible for documents already correctly notarized or certified, but timing depends on California Secretary of State counter availability. The fastest way to confirm options is to call or text.

What if my city is not on your list?

We frequently travel to nearby communities even when they don't have a dedicated page. If you don't see your city listed, call or text with your address and document type and we'll let you know whether we currently travel there.

Need a mobile notary or apostille in Los Angeles County?

A quick call or text with your city, document type, and timing is the fastest way to get an accurate quote and a confirmed appointment. We'll let you know up front whether your situation needs a special facility visit, a particular ID, or a certified copy from a county office.
